In partnership with families and community, we foster a life of belonging for children and youth with developmental disabilities, building meaningful relationships and valued roles. We share and promote the value of inclusion and belonging.
Extend-A-Family continues to offer support to families and its members during the pandemic. We have been communicating with families and groups virtually. We will continue to be available over the phone and online. Home visits and in-person meetings will not be taking place until further notice.
Extend-A-Family will be directed by guidelines from Public Health Toronto (https://www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/).
Stay safe during the pandemic.
What We Do
- We work in the community to support individuals who have developmental disabilities.
- We bring people together by encouraging and facilitating friendships.
- We believe that all people belong and have the right to participate in the community.
- We foster public awareness of the gifts and contributions of people with developmental disabilities.
Extend-A-Family acknowledges the importance of recognizing the Indigenous peoples – the Anishinabewaki, Huron-Wendat & Haudenosaunee – who are the original caretakers of the land on which our organization is situated. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory.
We are mindful of broken agreements and the need to build meaningful relationships and strengthen ties with the communities missing at our table. We acknowledge that we are all treaty people and accept our responsibility to honour all our relations. We operate on the belief that everybody belongs, yet we know we still have much work to do. We commit to listen, learn and work toward justice and reconciliation.
