Extend-A-Family works in community to support children and youth who have developmental disabilities.  We bring people together by inviting and facilitating friendships.  We believe that all people belong and have the right to participate in community.  We foster public awareness of the gifts and contributions of people with disabilities.

Caring for the Caregiver Workshop

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Workshop for parents of children, youth, or adults with disabilities

Parenting can be challenging. This workshop focuses on caring for the caregiver. Based on the model of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), you will be guided through a series of experiential exercises that help you reflect on your usual ways of dealing with stress, and explore alternative approaches based on acceptance, mindfulness and value-based living.

Volunteers Needed!

We need people who are interested in developing relationships with the children of families that we support to provide typical experiences in the community, create mutual friendship and provide a safe social network for these children. New Helpful Community Resource: Empowering Ability Podcast

Empowering Ability Podcast is a series focused on empowering people with disabilities to live an incredible ordinary life.  Episodes include discussion and interviews with individuals, “inclusion-thought” leaders, and experts.  The are 37 episodes in the series (as of November 9, 2017) and although they may be listened to independently of one another, it is recommended that you start with the Episode #000, the Introduction, which describes the overall purpose and goals of the series.  Please click on: https://empoweringability.podbean.com/
